Two Ways You Can Help
Hospice got its start as a volunteer movement, and volunteers are still a strong part of hospice work. Indeed, we say that volunteers are the heart of hospice – and hospices offer many opportunities for people who wish to donate their time to the good work of the hospice.
There are two general areas of hospice: Working directly with patients and families and working in administration/funding. You can try whichever one you would prefer or work both.
Hospices are required by Medicare to use volunteers to fulfill a certain part of a hospice's contact hours with patients and families, dso the hospice where you volunteer will deeply appreciate your volunteer time. Prospective hospice volunteers must also take a training course. The content and length of training vary. You can contact our volunteer coordinator to find out about volunteer training.
